2020 Top 10 Products for Nursing Mothers

  1. An Ergonomic Baby Carrier suitable for infants is arguably one of the most important aids in nursing. Baby wearing helps by releasing hormones that aid milk production. Personally I prefer something soft and cuddly for the first couple months after birth, and move up to a more durable carrier such as the LÍLLÉbaby The Complete All Seasons carrier – my absolute favorite baby product!
  2. The Boppy Nursing Pillow isn’t just for nursing. This product will grow with you and baby offering support through nursing, propping, tummy time, and learning to sit. Don’t forget a water-resistant liner, and a slip cover or two!!
  3. I could never pick just one brand of nursing bras as they were all great for different things! For those who appreciate underwire, try the Calvena lightly padded nursing bra. These Suekaphin are built like a sports bras. The Caramel Cantina were my favorite for the early days. I don’t recommend stocking up on these early on as your breasts will likely go through several size changes from maternity through the end of your nursing career.
  4. Lanolin is a lifesaver!! Offering lubrication for pumping, latching, and soothing for all that work! Like anything, there are several brands out there. What worked best for me was a rotation of Tender Care and Lansinoh lanolin cream.
  5. One product I was so glad I was introduced to was Nipple Shells. There are many uses such as acting as a milk saver, relieve engorgement, and most importantly to me… protects nipples from friction. Paired with a generous layer of your favorite lanolin cream.. your nipples will be on their way to healing quickly!
  6. For the really painful days I suggest Medela Soothing Gel Pads! They are reuse-able, discreet, and offer instant relief.
  7. Once I got the hang of things, I found that it was easiest to pump milk into the Medela Bags or Medela Bottles as they were a little more rigid and stood up nicely when I was finished pumping, one less thing I had to worry about when removing the pump. However, I preferred to divide enough milk per feed in Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags. They freeze and thaw well, and are less expensive. I also used these Storage Organizers moving the latest date forward. This made it easy for my partner and help to assist me without any confusion.
  8. Lansinoh Stay Dry Disposable Nursing Pads were by far my favorite. The washable felt too wet for me, and most other brands seemed to puff up as they filled.
  9. I also loved my Medela Hands Free Pumping Bra. I often wrapped it right around my nursing bra. With the extra support I was able to pump, mostly hands free!
  10. Lastly, I just about always have on one of these Nursing Camisoles! Most days I would wear this in place of a nursing bra, but they are also nice for under your non nursing clothes.
